The mission of Westwood Presbyterian Church is to open its doors as Christ opened His heart, to love people for who they are just as they come. We will care for our present and future members, recognizing their contributions, and, at the same time, providing opportunities for meaningful change. As the story of Godís relationship with His people changed slowly from the Old Testament to the New Testament, so shall we work to change in a slow and appropriate manner. Therefore, Westwood Presbyterian Church is a fellowship of believers that works to reach; teach; care and share in the good news of Jesus Christ in the historic and proud tradition of the Presbyterian heritage.
Goals of the Session, 2011
Developed at the Annual Session Retreat, 15 January 2011
As the Session of Westwood Presbyterian Church, we will:
1.) Focus our activities to the service and worship of Our Lord Jesus Christ, who alone is Lord of the Church. This is our chief and highest goal. To this end, we will strive to hold true to sound Biblical teaching, even if it is not be politically correct or culturally chic.
2.) Seek to be wise, faithful leaders in and for this congregation. We recognize that, as leaders, we are called to greater account for our character, our words and our actions.
3.) Seek to re-energize our congregation for evangelism, discipleship, stewardship, outreach and all other activities that we are called to undertake as believers in Jesus Christ. We recognize our duty to lead in these areas and hope to get all Westwood members and friends excited about this joyful life in the Lord. We all must be "reaching, teaching, caring and sharing" for Jesus Christ.
4.) Continue to explore and discuss ways to make our facility more accessible for those with special needs - for example, looking for ways to modify our pews to make room for a motorized scooter.
5.) Continue to put before the congregation our corporate responsibility to keep our facilities clean. Now that we have a volunteer custodian, we all shoulder this duty even more.
6.) Refer to these goals and to the vows we took as ordained elders at least quarterly, so as to not lose sight of what God is calling us to do for His Kingdom. To Him be all glory and honor in His Church!
